Celebrities Want to Meet People Online – Maybe You!

meet people onlineCelebrity matches get all the headlines in Hollywood. And why not? It’s big news when Brad Pitt marries Angelina Jolie or Ashton Kutcher hooks up with Mila Kunis. Hollywood is a small town, ultimately, and you wouldn’t think that movies stars and singers would try to meet people online.

You would be surprised at how many celebs are turning their backs on Hollywood when it comes to finding a partner. A growing number report that they feel more free dating online. Instead of a dating pool limited to other celebs – who are, in all honestly, more likely to be a bit shallow and self-absorbed – Hollywood singles can reach out into the entire online world.

Consider the case of Essence Atkins, a beautiful actress best known for 2010’s Are We There Yet? And 2013’s A Haunted House. Atkins told an Essence magazine writer that she was tired of dating Hollywood people. “I really didn’t want to limit myself with people who are in the entertainment industry,” Atkins said. “I wanted to date outside of the business but I didn’t have a network outside of the industry in L.A. What online dating did was offer me the opportunity to go out with a bunch of different people from different industries.”

Atkins met Jaime Mendez on an online dating site in 2008 and married him the next year. They had a daughter together in 2011. The marriage ended in 2016, but her story demonstrates that celebs feel confined within the face-to-face world of Hollywood events. They are increasingly looking to meet people online for fun and romance.

Among the celebrities who have admitted (or been spotted) searching for romance online are Lily Allen, Lindsay Lohan, Adele, Halle Berry, Chelsea Handler, Charlie Sheen, Carrie Ann Inaba, Matthew Perry, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Martha Stewart, Eric Stonestreet, Andy Cohen, and Luke Greenfield.

Actress Jennette McCurdy found romance online with Detroit Pistons star Andre Drummond. Ariana Grande began dating comedian Jai Brooks after he made a YouTube video explaining why she should date him. Glee actress Naya Rivera found romance with rapper Big Sean after the two met online. And before she became famous to Jersey Shore watchers as Snooki, Nicole Polizzi found love with a fellow she met on Facebook, of all places.

The Jai Brooks approach is one way to capture a celeb’s attention. The funny man’s tongue-in-cheek video was charming, sincere, and hilarious. There was no way Ariana Grande could refuse to meet the comedian after watching his online tribute.

Other celebs try to keep a low profile online, sometimes using a made-up name or phony photographs. Admit you’re a fan, but don’t be obsessed. Keep track of details about your favorite celeb and include them in your profile. Show that you are devoted and interested.

It’s also a good idea to befriend, like, or follow the celeb you are interested in meeting. You never know when the star might log on to social media, find your face, and send you a message.
